June 9th 2009

Information and List of attendees for Tuesday June 9th, 2009, 2.30pm.

This month's event has been sponsored by Wolverhampton Development Company.

This month we are hoping to include within the informal gathering a lively debate on journalism 2.0. Inspired by a local newspaper refusing to cover the Black Country Social Media Cafe, "social media is not in our best interests, so we will not cover your story", we will be having a panel consisting of those both for and against the embracing of social media by newspapers. Speakers confirmed so far include:

Dan Slee - Former journalist at Wolverhampton's Express & Star turned press and publicity officer @walsallcouncil.

Philip John - Blogger for The Lichfield Blog

Linda Jones - Media agency director, journalist and blog publisher, former district news editor Express & Star among others (dyed in the wool tendencies! See note below...)

We are still trying to hunt down a dyed-in-the-wool traditional journalist who is less than enthusiastic about the social media upstarts, if you know someone willing to join the debate please let me know (dp_stuart@hotmail.com).

Our Eventbrite page is a great place to tell us if you are attending.
